There was a bill in the Nevada Legislature to update Nevada’s public school’s sex ed to make it age-appropriate and medically accurate, AB230
Volunteers worked hard all session, calling, canvassing, testifying, emailing, and were assured AB230 would make it, they just had to convince the Governor.
But late Thursday night and early Friday morning, people started getting calls and texts that AB230 was removed from the list of bills left to be voted on.
Friday was deadline day. If the Senate didn’t vote on AB230, it was dead.
Nevadans called and emailed their state senators, and took to twitter to plead for the life of the bill they spent hours, weeks, and MONTHS volunteering their time to protect
Some didn’t like the push back from the community and started issuing threats and made snotty comments towards the heartbroken AB230 supporters
All that did was set everyone off.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, AB230 died at midnight. Some insisted the heart broken volunteers get over it or marriage equality would die
